The furniture you own, have recently inherited, or have just purchased at an auction or other venue is probably made of better material (real wood and wood veneers) than is generally available in new furniture today. While this mode of construction may be fine for the short-term -- these pieces will not have the staying power of older, well-made pieces. They are also more expensive to repair.
